May 18- mile 454.4 Zero miles hiked

Today I got a ride to REI where I picked up a Bear Can( a large hard plastic can that protects your food from bears. I will need this for the Sierra Nevada mountains which are quickly approaching), a new head lamp, and some new shoes.  Ate at In-n-out burger for the first time.  My totals(please note that this is after breakfast #1 and breakfast #2): 3 double cheeseburgers animal style, 3 orders of french fries, and a vanilla shake.  Disgusting, but also kind of awesome.

Tonight I will rest, and gear up for the final stretch of the desert.  I am feeling great, and am very happy about where I am.

  1. The weight of the bear can is... lovely. I had to carry one in Yosemite (and you will too!) last summer. They're just bulky and annoying to pack.

You're doing great on the trail. Did anyone find you once you got lost and after you got naked?

How are your shoes holding up? have you gone through a pair yet? or they falling off of your feet?

Keep up the pace and good hiking. I miss you and am trying to hike every weekend in your absence.

  2. I miss you too, my friend. One pair of shoes down. Just picked up new ones yesterday. The old ones were trashed and had no tread left. I found someone after I started northbound again, but saw no one as I was heading southbound for hours.
